Notes from the call (Rohit, Simone, Lucie, Marc), Feb. 23

Lucie, Rohit, Marc, please correct or add....

Reason of interest in training materials:

  • Simone: CGIAR has ICT-KM program. KS project is part of that program. Second phase is starting now. Want to produce KS training material. Need for KS tools training. But also idea to use Knowledge Expedition (KE) concept as entry point for deeper institutional change.
  • Rohit: CARE works on KS/KM strategy, regional-HQ focus, just finished a workshop facilitated by Nancy to launch KS pilot projects in the country offices, The short-tern goal is on the tools, but also long-term goal on situational contexts, organizational change. Want to develop training program
  • Marc: As a consultant gets expressions of interest for KS training (one in Tanzania in April has been announced on KM4Dev). Feels the need for modules that can be used and further build around
  • Lucie: same interest than Marc. Many organizations are interested in developing training materials. Upcoming KM4Dev workshop in the Netherlands is a good opportunity to produce a material with Community branding, that each org. could take as starting point

  • Rohit asks Lucie and Marc: do the org. express more interests in tools or in situational approach.
  • Lucie feels need for very practical tool orientated materials
  • Rohit has the same experience. People in the recent workshop want to know how to use the methods
  • Marc says yes and no. Tools alone difficult to explain without conceptual/contextual background
  • Lucie likes the KE idea but would likt to make a big step forward towards tools and methods course
  • What about having parallel work ongoing in the Netherlands (workshop of 3 days; 1.5 days for project work; 1.5 days for regular event)
  • Workshop team is finalizing proposal to get funding. Want to bring Southern participants in.
  • Simone: KE entry to course could be parallel. Let's select 2 or 3 themes. Have a storytelling approach. Example: The fire of the field> We bring in people who tried out KS approached to deal with the problematique, and share their experience.
  • Documentation: Writing workshop, and use of wikis, pod casting, video to document stories
  • Competencies needed: practitioners within each theme with experience to share, Techies for wikis, podcasting, video etc., training professional, facilitator, ...
  • Lucie and Rohit: the story approach fits nicely with the tools approach, because complementary
  • Rohit and Simone: Bring in people from our orgs. to tell the stories
  • Simone: we may need two workshops, the Netherlands to start with, virtual work in-between, final workshop at the end.
  • Financial aspects: Need to write concept note, get orgs interested, they chip in money (15,000 - 30,000 USD) to bring in people, competencies, develop IT part...
  • Simone to write a concept note to share with this group
  • This idea would fit into the Netherlands workshop proposal. Budget KE could be one part of the global workshop budget as separate item.
  • Rohit and Simone to go back with the idea to CARE and CG and see reactions.
  • All of us to think about possible partners
  • Call of Netherlands workshop team on March, 6. Simone to participate.
