Title : Action Research programme: Nurturing and Incubating Creativity and Innovation among School Children


The main objective of the proposed action research programme is to identify, nurture and incubate innovation and creativity among children. The programme will help to identify children who have special flavor for innovation and these selected students will be given intensive theoretical and practical training on various aspects of innovation. The students will be given exposure to needs and problems of society and prompt them to develop innovations for the identified problems. The selected solutions are scaled up through various channels. Attention should be given to both technological innovations and social innovations. The programme will make life changing impacts on children and in society.

Objectives

a)To create innovation ecosystem in schools. •Facilitating free flow, out of the box, practical thinking •Generating innovative ideas, •Converting these ideas into products & process. •Incubation & Scaling

b)To give exposure to practical problems/ needs of communities, to students to facilitate need based innovations.

c)To identify and nurture future leaders of innovation and creativity


•Methodology /Work plan

a)Orientation workshop ( 1 day)

b)Intensive training for selected students (20 students )on innovation ( 3 days)

-Various aspects of innovation -Orientation to problems/needs of their community /society -Field Visits

c)Identifying innovative solutions/ technologies ( offline 1 week) •The students will be grouped into 4 and they will be requested to identify innovations through group works.

d)Review of suggested innovations (1 day)

e)Developing the technologies/ solutions and piloting (off line 2 weeks) •Each group will be prompted to develop innovations and innovative solutions based on the identified problems. f)Review of innovations ( 1 day) g)Exhibition ( 1 day ) h)Incubation i)Formation of innovation club for sustaining the programme.

Relevance and potential benefit to the KM4Dev community

The proposed project is the first ever systematic approach and attempt made for promoting innovation and creativity among the school children. The implementation of the project will give insights to KM4Dev members to learn the innovation process and possibilities of launching systematic methodologies for promoting innovation among the school children and in the course curriculum

Implementation team The project will be implemented through Innoaction India ( www.innoaction.net) a non profit organization based in Kerala, India founded by a group of professionals active in the field of innovation . The founder director T.J James is a Chevening Scholar, KM4Dev member and the winner of prestigious Chevening Rolls Royce Scholarship programme on Science, Innovation and policy from Said Business School, University of Oxford in 2011. He was the former National Coordinator of National Innovation Foundation and National award winner of Nation Innovation Foundation.

Budget requirement (for two schools) In USD

Basic and follow up training on innovation (14 days)  : 1400 Support to children to start innovation based activities  : 800 Exhibition of innovations  : 1000 Documentation  : 1000Travel  : 500 Total 4700$
