Welcome the the KM4DEV Wiki!

Welcome to the KM4Dev wiki!

This wiki is both a working area for the Knowledge Management for Development (KM4Dev) community and a way for us to make our joint work accessible to a wider audience. KM4Dev is a community of international development practitioners interested in knowledge management and knowledge sharing issues and approaches. For more information on the community, click here [1], or download this one-page flyer [2].

This work is licensed under a [3]Creative Commons License.

Our community communicates regularly on an email list, have a site built on a content management system for archives and resource sharing and now have this wiki! The wiki is only one entry point to the resources and work of KM4Dev. To find additional resources such as articles, papers, books and web links, click here [4].

The KM4D Journal is also a great source of information on KM for development [5].

Finally, the KM4Dev discussion list is where many of the ongoing dialogues among KM4Dev members take place and it is, in a very real sense, where the community 'lives'. To subscribe to the KM4Dev list, click here (link to list)

About this wiki

This wiki is currently used in several ways:

  1. As a collaborative space during workshops or to work on different projects (link to to Main page section called Other Pages)
  2. As a space to present shared perceptions (often arising from conversations on the KM4Dev mailing list) of the 'state-of-the-art' in conceptualising knowledge management and knowledge sharing, particularly in an international development context
  3. As a environment where you can learn to use a wiki (link to Main page intro and How to work with a wiki)

Our first project on the KM4Dev wiki was the [Community Knowledge] area, (formerly called the FAQTory ( FAQ Index)- a place to make and use FAQs and information pages out of our knowledge surfaced in our online conversations and from member experiences. This project gives us a chance to co-edit, created linked pages as background resources and play with a new tool. We encourage you to look around and play with us.

If you are new to wikis, we have a Wiki Tip Page and a play-based wiki experiment, the KM4Dev Cook Book which was an experiment from May 2006 to use the tool in a playful manner.

Below you will find links to the key areas we have made so far. If you have suggestions or observations, please share them on our Wiki Feedback Center. If you see something that needs fixing, FIX IT!

To participate:

  1. Get a wiki account: We have had problems with spammers on this wiki, so we have to add people manually. To request a wiki account: email Lucie Lamoureux at llamoureux AT bellanet.org (replace ' AT ' by '@'). Within a couple of days Lucie will send you an email with your account name and password.
  2. Come back to the wiki and log in: Look in the upper right hand corner of the page. Once you log in you will be able to edit and add pages.
